Castries, St. Lucia

“Gommier” are sailing canoes originally used for fishing and travel around the island of St. Lucia. The boats began to be used for racing on days when they were not needed for fishing, and gradually they evolved into racing craft. Over time they were made lighter and faster for racing under sail or with an outboard engine.
