Built by Thomas Fearon for H. Lansing Quick, Yonkers, New York

Often referred to as “the poor man’s yacht,” the decked sailing canoe was hugely popular in the United States and Great Britain during the latter part of the 19th century. The canoes were reasonably easy to build, and many designs were published in popular magazines.

The sailor sits on the plank seat, which slides in and out according to the wind. This allows the sailor to use his or her weight to balance the canoe in any conditions, and thus go faster.

H. Lansing Quick was a member of the Yonkers Canoe Club and won American Canoe Association class honors in 1908 aboard “Much Quicker”.
