Gondola, mid-19th century
Casal Boatyard, Venice, Italian Republic

Gondolas are still used to carry visitors and native Venetians on the narrow canals of Venice. There is perhaps no other craft in the world so closely associated with its place of origin as the gondola.

The gondola is one of only a few boats built to be asymmetrical. Its asymmetrical design offsets the weight of the gondolier.

Origin: Casal Boatyard, Italian Republic, Venice
